The goddess Athena takes revenge on the valiant Ajax, who had proudly refused divine aid in battle, and clouds his mind. Ajax boasts of having massacred the Atrides, while he has slaughtered some cattle; Odysseus feels pity for him and Athena mocks him. Soon the hero comes to his senses and realizes the reality and the ridiculous. Neither his sailors from Salamis, nor his concubine Tecmessa, nor the embrace of his little son distract him from suicide, which he commits by moving away and deceiving everyone. The last part of the tragedy is a discussion between the Atreids, who deny Ajax an honorable burial, and Ulysses with Teucer, who demands it and prevails. (440 BC).

Another servant, the brilliant Palestrione, tells the background to the story, and how he ended up in the soldier's house to protect a young girl, her master's fiancée and kidnapped by the soldier. The young man reaches his prisoner girlfriend thanks to a wall drilled by the ingenious servant between the houses of the soldier and a nearby friend.
